Stairs

We sit on the stairs

That connect your house and mine

People walk past us in pairs

You tell me some tales

And I watch you breathe life

Into your words

I smile

You place your head

On my shoulder

Your laugh echoes through the walls

The sun peeks through the gaps

You invite me o’er to your home

And I invite you to mine

But we never move

We share a smoke over wine

Most evening like these

What better way is there is

Than to share stories

And one of these days

between the countless words

That fly from you to me

I fall for you

And you for me
