Love Me

You won’t ever understand me

And I don’t expect you to

I am the sunset in a world full of sunshine

I am an unlikely storm that lashes the city in December

But you don’t have to understand me

You have to love me

For whom I am

Why do you look at me

As a reflection of what I am supposed to be

Rather than what I am

I am not your expectations

I am not your stereotype

I breathe differently

My heart beats like it’s a race

I am not evil

I ain’t God

I am just me

Tired of explaining, of fighting

Words fail me

And I isolate,

But you start painting my canvas

In your colors, again

You are killing me

You won’t ever understand me

And I don’t expect you to

But you don’t have to understand me

You have to love me
